Day 18 of Advent- Dec. 14th

Dec. 14 - Luke 1:5-25- Troy Wallace (H2o Church)

Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous before God and blameless. They wanted a child (they had prayed for one), but they were old, and God hadn't given them a child. How loving and merciful of God to promise them one through his angel Gabriel! And not just any child! A child who would have an incredible, positive influence on many people for God.

Unfortunately, Zechariah didn't receive the angel's visit and promise with joy and amazement, but with fear and skepticism. Yet God remained merciful to Zechariah and faithful to his promise. God still gave Zechariah a sign (though probably not the sign he wanted) by making him unable to speak, and he still gave Zechariah and Elizabeth their amazing son, John the Baptist, the one who prepared the way for Jesus!

- What is one blessing that God has promised you through his word that you are thankful for?

- What is one blessing that God has promised you through his word that you are skeptical about?

Father, thank you that you are faithful, loving, and merciful to your children even when we are faithless. Help me to trust you and your promises more and more, so that I can receive them with joy and amazement.

wonderful, but it was also done with me in mind.  May I rest in the assurance of my salvation and know that you were redeeming me, even before time began.
